The medical IoT industry is poised for growth in 2023 as AI technologies see continued adoption. The expected velocity is being driven by advancements in machine learning, cloud technologies, and perhaps most importantly, the growing need for portable and non-invasive healthcare solutions. 
IoT—the Internet of Things—is the connection of the physical world with the digital world. When this connection occurs, it presents unique opportunities in the medical world. One example is remote patient monitoring using smart, wearable devices that provide a continuous stream of health metrics, such as heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, glucose, and more. These devices are already at work to diagnose disease and help patients manage medicine adherence, continuous measurement, and more to improve clinical outcomes.
Over the next several years, we anticipate medical IoT devices will make even bigger headway in healthcare, keeping patients connected to providers long after leaving the doctor’s office or being discharged from the hospital. These connected devices both strengthen patient/provider relationships and allow for the creation of personalized treatments to drive more positive results.
Looking into the next decade, we expect to see the emergence of next-generation IoT devices, including detection devices for Parkinson’s disease, portable robotic surgical tools, and AR/VR solutions for open heart surgery. Advanced sensors combined with AI and data analytics will provide physicians with critical information about our bodies so we can live our lives to the fullest.
